Carl L. Pew, DVM
Dr. Pew received two Bachelor of Science degrees from Virginia Tech: one in zoology and one in chemistry. He took a break before going to veterinary school and moved to Michigan to work for Upjohn Pharmaceuticals. He attended Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating magna cum laude with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (’77). Afterward, he worked in the metropolitan Detroit area before moving to Utah in 1981 and purchasing a veterinary clinic in Orem.
Dr. Pew has been breeding and exhibiting Doberman Pinschers and Bull Terriers since 1968. He served as an officer in many kennel clubs and is a licensed AKC judge of several breeds. This hobby led him to develop the practice into a widely recognized canine reproduction center. He is a principle in the international canine frozen semen firm of “Sires on Ice” based in New South Wales, Australia. Dr. Pew and his wife Suzanne have a daughter, Audrey, and son, James, who both come to the office frequently. They reside in Draper and have two pets, a cat named Kit Kat and a miniature bull terrier named Diver.
Heather Gavin, DVM
Dr. Gavin attended Utah State University, majoring in Biovet Science with a Biotech emphasis in 2006. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington in 2010. She focuses on reproduction, behavioral medicine, and weight management. She has been married for ten years to her husband, Gavin (and yes, she says he goes by his last name). They have six children, five grandchildren, two Yorkshire terriers named Cian and Aoibheal, and a blind cat named Rags. She loves reading or anything to do with horses and being outdoors, including hiking and rock climbing.
Ian J Kolbaba, DVM
Many of you may remember Dr. Kolbaba from years ago when he began his veterinary career at Pet Medical Center in Orem as a veterinary assistant. At that time, he was completing his undergraduate degree in biology at Brigham Young University (2011). He then attended St. Mathew’s College of Veterinary Medicine (2015) and completed his clinical rotations at North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine. He returned to work for South Mountain Pet Care as a DVM in 2015. His special interests include canine reproduction, dermatology, aquaculture and fish medicine. When he is not at work he enjoys spending time with his wife Jessica and new baby girl Olivia and working on landscaping his new home in Lehi. He also enjoys, when he gets time, hiking, traveling, fishing, scuba diving, and being outdoors. Dr. Kolbaba is a marine aquarium enthusiast and even grew coral in his garage. Samson is his trusty English bull terrier, who is a great traveling companion and adventurer. Dr. Kolbaba has called many places his home, including Illinois, Utah, Nicaragua, Grand Cayman, and North Carolina.
Hannah Whiting – Staff Manager/Reproduction Technician
Hannah has been with us since 2009 as a technician, receptionist, reproduction technician and manager. She was born and raised in Utah, though she lived in Alaska for a year. In her spare time, she likes to make up her own jokes, write stories, read novels, surf Netflix and drink as much Dr. Pepper as possible. Hannah has an insatiable love for dogs and enjoys working in an environment that allows her to be around them all the time. Hannah is married and her family includes 5 St. Bernards, a basset hound, and 2 cats.
Mallorie Griffiths – Technician/Reproduction Technician/Sires On Ice International Shipments
Mallorie has been with us since 2013 as a technician. She lives in Riverton with her husband, her son, and a sheltie named Jackson. She loves anything to do with horses. She spends her spare time horseback riding, horse showing, hiking, and crafting.
Jamie Welsh – Lead Technician/Reproduction Technician/Sires on Ice International Shipments
Jamie has been with us since 2014. She attended both Oregon State University and Linn Benton Community College before moving to Utah in 2010. She has a few dogs that keep her busy. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her daughters and pets, camping, hiking, and target shooting.
Danielle Eaton – Technician
Danielle joined our team in March of 2016 after completing her course work at Broadview University. Danielle interned with us and we’re glad to have her as part of our care team. Danielle is married with one young son, living in West Jordan along with her two Heeler Mix dogs. Danielle loves animals and loves to teach and perform with her dance company.
Kamri Capson – Front Desk/Technician
Kamri joined us in 2015. She attended Herriman High School and graduated early as a Junior in 2015 and currently resides in Herriman with her husband and pack of animals. She breeds Golden Retrievers and loves her 4 Goldens at home. She also has a deep love for horses and has trained and competed with her horses almost all her life.
Dinova Pinilla – Technician
Dinova joined our team in the fall of 2015. She attended Riverton High School as well as Salt Lake Community College. Dinova is a native New Yorker but loves Utah and working with animals. She has 1 cat, named Luna, and 2 dogs, one a Weimaraner Trotter and a Pitbull/Boxer mix. Dinova loves to travel, watch Netflix and going out to eat.
Laura Gricius – Technician
Laura joined our team in April 2015. We’re glad to have her on board. Laura is a graduate from Highland High School and is currently taking Wildlife Biology courses via BYU Idaho online. She has 2 Saint Bernards named MacKenzie and Parker and two Sugar Gliders named Tula and Charolais. She loves longs walks with her dogs, bike riding and anything outdoors.
Gina Yniquez – Front Desk
Gina joined our team in June 2016. She attended Pima Medical Institute in Las Vegas Nevada where she received her Veterinary Assistant Certificate and has prior experience working at other veterinary clinics. Gina grew up in Southern California and visits family members as often as possible where she loves to go to the beach. At home, Gina loves her young son, her dog named Princess as well her betta fish. In her off time, besides going to California, she enjoys hiking, swimming, crocheting, and scrapbooking.
Alex Marsala – Technician/Reproduction Technician
Alex joined our team in August 2016. Alex was born and raised in France and moved to Utah a few years ago. She and her husband live in Draper and own a German Shepherd named Mooky. She enjoys going on hikes with Mooky and friends. She also enjoys traveling and one of her goals is to visit as many US States as possible. We welcome her to our team of technicians.
Rachel Hamilton – Technician
Rachel is a recent member of our team joining us in February 2017. She has lived in Bothell Washington and currently resides in Herriman currently attending Herriman High School. She loves goldfish and has a dog named Diesel. We welcome Rachel to our team.
Annika Camphusien – Technician
Annika joined us in February 2018. She has lived in both Utah and Arizona, and her family includes a German Shepherd named Bear. She enjoys playing soccer, hiking, and camping with her family. We enjoy having her on our team!
